Statement

Emulating layered textures found in nature, I use hundreds of coils of clay to create ceramic forms reminiscent of knotty wood grain and lava flows. Much like a paper wasp nest, with meditative repetition resulting in mesmerizing patterns, each vessel is built up one coil at a time. Irregular layers are added round and around to create undulating ridges pressed together and to build a hollow form. The outside is then smoothed, but the texture is kept intact inside, exposed only once cut open.
